DanicaDanica Sue Patrick is an American former professional racer. Danica Sue Patrick is among the most successful woman in American open-wheel racing in history. Her victory in the Indy Japan 300 was her first triumph. She quit high school with her parents' permission in 1998 and relocating to the United Kingdom to further her career. Patrick raced in Formula Vauxhall, Formula Ford before returning to the United States in 2001. In 2002, she took part in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races along with Rahal Letterman racing. Patrick raced in the Toyota Atlantic Series the following two years. Her best finish was third in the championship standings for the 2004 season. She became the first female driver in the series to take home the pole position. She was awarded the 2005 IndyCar Series Rookie of Year. She continued to improve over the next two years with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2006 and then Andretti Green Racing in 2007. Patrick placed sixth overall in the drivers' standings in 2008 after her Japan win. She improved her position to earn fifth place the following season. This led her to finish a career-best third at the Indianapolis 500, the best race of any woman at the race. Patrick's overall performance declined in the 2010 season, but she had two second-place finishes on oval tracks prior to leaving IndyCar after the 2011 season to concentrate on stock car racing full-time.
